The Forest of Reading is Canada’s largest recreational reading program! This initiative offers six school-aged reading programs to encourage a love of reading. It is a Canadian-wide program that was launched by the Ontario Library Association, but is also intended for young readers across the country and those participating in international schools. The Forest helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators. More than 250,000 readers participate annually from their school and/or public library. All Canadians are invited to participate via their local public library, school library, or individually.
HOW DO THE PROGRAMS WORK?
Children read a minimum of five out of the 10 nominated titles and then vote in the spring for their favorite book. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 will want to take part in these exciting programs. Grades up to Grade3 are read new Blue Spruce books by myself and Classroom Teachers. Grades 3 and 4 students are eligible to read SilverBirch Express. Grades 5 and 6 have access to 10 Fiction and 10 Non-fiction titles.
WHEN DO THE PROGRAMS RUN?
The program runs from now until April 1st.
HOW DOES MY CHILD REGISTER?
Children in Grades 3 to 6 have been introduced to the books available within the Library and see me to register and sign out books.
ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO READ, READ, READ!
Over 250,000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 read Forest of Reading® books every ear. The Forest of Reading® programs are purely recreational — not tied to the curriculum — and meant to encourage the love of reading. It can even be fun for the entire family — read some of the books aloud or discuss them together.
SUPPORT THE FOREST OF READING®! Students who read a minimum of 5 books will also have their name put in a draw for posters. Other contests are also available – you can read more at: https://www.accessola.org/web/OLAWEB/Forest_of_Reading/Current_Program_Year.aspx
