Safety Tips
- Construction vehicles can move suddenly and quickly. Stay alert!
- Keep to the sidewalks where available, and cross only where designated.
- Reduce risk by crossing the street before getting to the work zone or going a block out of your way.
- Construction work may be fascinating to watch but you need to get through the work zone safely. Don’t linger any longer than necessary.
- Walk in groups or with an adult.
- Give yourself extra time. You may need to wait until work and/or construction vehicles can be safely stopped to allow you through.
- Keep far away from open excavations and active construction vehicles. Don’t assume workers know you are there!
- Wait for eye contact and an acknowledgement that they are aware of you.
- Be patient if they need to help escort you safely through the work zone.
- Drivers – use the park and walk locations on this map to avoid delays and dangerous turnarounds.
- Things to watch for in work zones
- Orange work zone signs – show what is going on and how to travel safely through the work zone.
- Construction worker acknowledgement – a hand signal or wave shows they have seen you and they will indicate when it is safe to proceed.
